In many ways, it was the great missing issue of 2004, lost in the avalanche on 9/11, Iraq, Vietnam, moral posturing and personal attacks. The Kerry campaign tried an 11th hour Florida-aimed effort to senior citizen voters, but in the main, Social Security and indeed, the nation's fraying social safety net, didn't make much of a dent. Ironic then that - on this blog anyway - the post-mortem on the election from our panel of experts focuses heavily on retirement benefits and the safety net.
