Empire Statehood
Sometimes, you can tell a lot about a guy by his sense of humor - or lack thereof. The incoming Governor of New York, young David Patterson of Harlem, the first African-American to serve in the chair of Clinton and Jay, Hughes and Roosevelt, Smith and FDR, Rockefeller and Carey had the line of the day when asked by a reporter if he'd ever patronized a prostitute.
"Only the lobbyists," he said.
And thus, got off to a very good start indeed.

Could be that incoming Governor Patterson will be a very good thing for New York. I wish him well.

The silver lining to a very dark cloud. Let's hope he considers reform in Albany a big priority. Patterson is well liked, very smart and, apparently, a jazz historian -- at least based on his comments at Max Roach's tribute at Riverside Church. Not a common attribute for most Governors.

Speaking of lobbyists, we have the Governor's girl on the front page of every newspaper. But not a single word of McCain's *lobbyist* girl.... Sometimes I wonder if the press is actually looking for her.... But Ferraro's or Wright's comments are the important stuff, right? :)

A mere quibble, but the "young" David Paterson is fifty four years old-five years older than Spitzer.
